Over the past decade I have conducted research in four primary areas: 1) Muslim identity among young African Diaspora migrants in the US and UK, examining issues of new identity formation; 2) the intersection of Christian identity, femininity and dance, using dance as a lens to conduct critical interrogations into the role of religion in the construction of gendered identities; 3) disability and world making, examining religious identity formation for persons with disabilities; 4) ‘race,’ dance and activism, exploring the ways in which professional dance artists/activist inspire critical dialogue around notions of the body .
Public engagements are essential components/outputs to the research projects I undertake. These take the form of workshops, performances, and audience-researcher-artists exchange.
