“In Material Resistance: Social Justice and Empowerment Narratives Told Through Cloth, a fashion and textile art exhibition, we invite visitors to explore cultures, cloth, making, designing, artistry, and life through a critical lens that challenges the current injustices that have a stronghold on our society. As suggested by the 2022 Cornell Biennial theme, “Futurities, Uncertain,” we cannot know what our societal future holds. However, something that is in our control are the critical conversations and dialogue that we can have and the mindsets that we pursue.
Curated by doctoral students Dyese Matthews, Kat Roberts, Jenine Hillaire (Fiber Science and Apparel Design, College of Human Ecology), and Ami Tamakloe (Sociocultural Anthropology), and is part of the 2022 Cornell Biennial.
