Professor Emerita Dr. Joanne Kilgour Dowdy
A life of melding artistry and scholarship
Since her 2021 interview, Professor Dr. Joanne Kilgour Dowdy retired; she is Professor Emerita at Kent State University, Ohio. An International Dance and Theater Artist, Adult Learning Specialist, and Education Innovator and Visionary, she discussed her life of melding artistry and scholarship, her lifelong archiving practices, and performing after 40.
Professor Emerita Kilgour Dowdy is the author and editor of 18 books. A graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, she has performed Between Me and the Lord, an autobiographical work in Trinidad and the USA for Jane Fonda’s Think Tank at Harvard University. Among her awards is the Derek Walcott (1992, Nobel Laureate) Scholarship. Her first children’s book, OLYMPIC HERO: LENNOX KILGOUR’S STORY, was made into an animated film that can be viewed at jokdowdy.com. The book now appears in Spanish and Haitian Krewol.

Professor Dr. Anna Kasafi Perkins
The Church, IPV and LBTQ in Jamaica
Since her interview in 2021, Professor Dr. Anna Kasafi Perkins became the first professor of Caribbean Theology and Ethics. She is a senior programme officer in the Quality Assurance Unit at the University of the West Indies serving the Mona Campus. A Roman Catholic theologian/ethicist by training, she is a former dean of studies of St Michael’s Theological College, where she continues as adjunct faculty. She is the author of Justice as Equality: Michael Manley’s Caribbean Vision of Justice, and contributor/co-editor/editor for Justice and Peace in a Renewed Caribbean: Contemporary Catholic Reflections, Quality in Higher Education in the Caribbean and Rough Riding: Tanya Stephens and the Power of Music to Transform Society. She has written several articles and book chapters. Professor Dr. Perkins received her PhD in Theological Ethics from Boston College in the United States.
